History:

Discovered in the 16th century near the Amazon River in South America, Amazonite is a symbol of courage and peace. Its name refers to the place where the stone was discovered. Indeed, the colour of the stone is similar to that of the tropical water of this river.

Deposit and formation:

Amazonite can vary from pale blue, slightly greenish to turquoise blue. This natural stone belongs to the Feldspar family. It is mined mainly in Brazil, Peru, Colorado, India, Russia and South Africa.

Legends and beliefs:

The fearsome Amazonian warriors used the stone to give themselves strength and courage before battles. Today, the stone continues to honour these warrior women as a symbol of courage and willpower.
Also used in ancient times, Amazonite stone was present in Egypt and Mesopotamia. Appreciated for its virtues, it was notably used in jewellery and for the making of decorative objects. This fine, powerful natural stone is respected by all peoples without exception.
In Mesopotamia, amazonite stone was associated with the powerful ocean goddess Tiamat.

Among the Greeks, the stone was used on warriors' shields to protect them from enemies and to give them courage.
Finally, among the Navajo Indians, Amazonite was associated with the goddess of the Earth, mother of mankind and the origin of human life, Estsanatlehi.
